Hi trying to win an argument and some beer tokens can anyone tell me what the green stripe is for on the aspirator suction tubes thank you all!!!!

There is no green stripe on the ones we use here.

If you are talking about the coloured tip of the bit you put in the patients mouth, it is coloured to remind you that you should always be able to see it, so you don't shove it blindly in as far as it will go?

no the stripe runs all the way along the tube and in case it matters i'm talking about the hand operated aspirator

I know the one you mean and on most similar tubes (endotracheal tubes, for example) that sort of coloured stripe is usually a radio-opaque marker which allows the position of the tube to be identified on an x-ray film.
Quite why you'd need that sort of thing on the short suction tubes attached to the little hand-held aspirators, I have no idea. You'd have to be pretty careless to loose one of those in a patient's body cavity but I suppose it *is* possible, so just in case...? Kiss my S5 dermatome...! |

nice one thanks guys wasnt what i thought it was for but because the other guy cant prove what its for i'm gonna say nothing!!!!
having seen the paperwork for kit lost at jobs Hamish has a fair point but as far as i know none of that kit has ever turned up in a pt body cavity!!! |

perhaps we should mark all our kit with the magic green stripe and put x ray scanners on the doors to the station!
