NHS PAY Joint Statement by NHS Trade Unions
Dear Member
Firstly, let me start by apologising for not having updated you sooner on NHS Pay. The reason for this delay is largely because the outcome from separate consultations by other NHS unions was only fully known at the end of last week. Since then, NHS unions have been in discussion about the overall result which is that the majority of NHS staff voted to accept the offer. This, however, is contrary to most unions in the NHS who voted to reject - including GMB.
The position of the GMB remains the same in so far as we rejected the proposed offer over three years as we believed strongly then, and still do now, that the offer was well below inflation, did not meet the expectations of GMB members in the NHS and, furthermore, given the current rises in the price of food, fuel and services, the decision by GMB members to reject to offer was the right one! Cont/…….. NHS unions who voted to reject and those who voted to accept, all now share the same concerns with the pay settlements for years two and three - April 2009 and 2010 - and have, therefore, signed up to a Statement, unifying NHS unions, that gives notice to the Government and Pay Review Body of our intentions to seek a review of the pay settlements for 2009 and 2010 if inflation continues to climb significantly above the planned pay rates. This will be done by NHS unions triggering a 're-opener clause' in the Settlement. GMB and other NHS unions will gather evidence to support a review of pay settlements for 2009/2010 and collect proof that increases in prices for food, fuel and services are affecting the living standards of our members. Evidence will then be presented to the Review Body.
GMB expects the Government to honour the 're-opener clause' and to agree to a review or re-negotiation of pay uplifts for 2009 and 2010. If the Government fails to do so, GMB will consult its members on action up to and including industrial action.
A copy of the Statement is attached and can be found on the GMB webside or obtained from your GMB Region.

JOINT STATEMENT BY NHS TRADE UNIONS NHS Pay The NHS Trade Unions have met to consider the outcome of their separate consultations over the proposed multi-year agreement on pay and other matters. Whilst there were widely differing results from the consultations with most unions voting to reject, the meeting recognised that unions representing the majority of NHS staff had voted to accept the multi-year agreement. The unions listed below agree that, as a result of the NHSPRB recommendations, the appropriate increase from 1st April 2008 should be 2.75% and are keen that members should receive this amount in their pay at the earliest opportunity. To this extent, unions agree that a pay circular should be issued during week commencing 16th June implementing the settlement and specifying that years 2 and 3 may be the subject of the reopener clause. Equally, all unions share concerns that the pay uplifts for year commencing the 1st April 2009 and year commencing 1st April 2010 may be significantly below inflation given the current upward direction in prices for food, fuel and other commodities and services. The unions will continue to collect evidence and give notice that should inflation continue to climb significantly above the planned pay rates across the three year period, they will trigger the re-opener clause in the agreement by returning to the NHSPRB. In such circumstances the unions would expect the Government/s to honour the terms and spirit of the re-opener clause and agree to a review by the NHSPRB or to a re-negotiation of the pay uplifts for 2009 and 2010. The unions would expect the Government to implement any recommendations to maintain the living standards of NHS staff. Failure to maintain the living standards of NHS staff could lead to unions conducting industrial action ballots. . BAOT, BDA, BOS, CDNA, CSP. FCS, GMB, RCM, RCN, SOCP, SOR, UNISON Not signing: Unite 18th June 2008 |

Right, so the GMB did an 'internal Ballot'
Where 98% of there Members voted against the offer? The reason i put a ? is because the 'Ballot' means nothing! The Ballot was addressed to Sharon Holder and a GMB PO Box number, Not to the "Electoral Reform" and it said "Do you accept or Reject the offer"? There was no mention of, if rejected "INDUSTRIAL ACTION WILL HAVE TO TAKE PLACE" Unlike the only official Ballot by Unison. So S Holder could of Rigged the Ballot? But even so the GMB will now use the only one OFFICAL BALLOT as a Unison Knocking Exercise to try and grab a few members. The GMB/Ambulance Scab Union could not even stand by there convictions and support the laughable 98% return and have now accepted the offer by the looks of things! Why did they not ask the 98% to now offically vote and undertake "Industrial Action"? that way they have even got extra members! General Municipal Bottlers!

An individual postal ballot of 452,000 members working in the NHS saw 64.91% of those taking part vote to accept the three-year offer.

The figures speak for themselves Judge, although to be honest I'm gutted that the LAS gets sucked into pay deals that relate to the other 'also
rans' within the NHS.
You mention plod getting 1.9% and Fire Brigades liking oil drums more than their beds. But I think that's why we feel let down. NHS or not we are an Emergency Service and we should get improved pay increases from those that drive NHS fleet logistics, receptionists and everyone else. Of course, for them, it's a great deal. For us, it's just more fuel to demoralise an ambivalent workforce and group of members.

Fuck off JD - tell you what, we'll split the difference between yours and my salaries, should we, seeing as you obviously include me in the people that do
an eqyually improtant job??
You talk through your arse, and if you didn't then you'd still be fighting to make sure that techs and paras all got the same money - but we all know that YOUR (and mine) union didn't do that...... EDITED BY BWTS ADMIN

I haven't seen all those figures before, but they speak for themselves.
Member apathy! You can't blame the union, whatever the result, if only 17% of the membership bothers to vote! And then, out of those that voted, the majority were voting YES which basically means that over 425,000 UNISON members in Healthcare (including ambulance workers) were happy to accept the deal!
Just because I shift crap all day doesn't mean I have to listen to it as well.

equally important jobs | ||

Whilst I agree that everyone should be valued in their jobs, I feel your comments are somewhat naive in the extreme judge.
In NIAS, call takers, or EMDs get band 4, the people typing the PRFs into the computers in HQ get band 4, medical secretaries (at hospital) get 4 in case they read something disturbing in notes , yet a tech ACTUALLY DEALING with the trauma also gets a 4. do you really expect us to believe that all those jobs are of equal value ? |

Sorry but the people that replied to my post:
Please read what i wrote and what it was replying to: The TOPIC is about the Pay Rise! Nothing about Banding! I said that everyone does an equally important job within the NHS and all deserve a decent pay rise...

konrose, maybe you should get your union to try and get you into band 5, you shouldnt moan that las are in band 5. Well done to us

Everyone in the Public Sector deserves a fair pay rise, especially as the cost of living is increasing by the day. As far as
bandings under Agenda for Change are concerned, those services, for example, West Midlands, who achieved bands 5 for techs. and 6 for paras. did so with the
sweat and toil of their Union Representatives, led by UNISON and Regional Organiser. For those services who accepted band 4 for techs. and 5 for paras.,
without a fight, then on your heads be it.

Judge Dread wrote: Well what's the point of having a branch of Unison specifically for the LAS if your concern is the rest of the NHS workforce as well instead of just ours? You see in my own primitive brain I thought that the LAS branch of UNISON could, if they so wanted, disagree with the rest of the union as a whole because our circumstances are different. "How are they different?" I hear you ask. Well they're different because we say they are. I've not met a single ambulance person (with the exception of you) that voted yes and so by definition, we do not agree to the pay offer. Likewise we all disagree that we are the same as every other Tom, Dick or Harriett in the NHS. Equality isn't about giving some rude, miserable clerical underachiever the same wages as a front line emergency health care professional IMO.
